A small-time drug dealer, Slim, makes a series of wrong moves, leading to his imprisonment in San Quentin. Despite his best efforts to stay out of trouble, Slim becomes embroiled in a bitter rivalry with a white supremacist leader, Sammytown, after a fellow convict betrays him. As he serves his eight-year sentence, Slim finds solace in a group of misfit inmates and passes the time by playing cards and telling jokes. However, his past eventually catches up with him when his former partner visits, seeking to exploit Slim's knowledge of a botched dope deal.
