Lonnie "Lucky Man" Johnson, a renowned drag racer, drives for Fast Company, managed by the corrupt Phil Adamson. He becomes a mentor to up-and-coming driver Billy "The Kid" Crocker. However, Adamson's deal with rival Gary "The Blacksmith" Black leads to the theft of their funny car. Lonnie and Billy reclaim the car, planning to run it independently in the next race, sparking Adamson's ruthless attempts to sabotage their plans.
