A former convict, Louis Gossett Jr., is forced to live with his long-lost son, Blair Underwood, after his release from prison. As they navigate their complicated relationship, Gossett finds work as a car mechanic and becomes involved with Rae Dawn Chong. Meanwhile, Underwood's old criminal associates plan to rob the dealership where he and Chong work, leading to a confrontation that ultimately brings the father and son closer together.
