For a Woman background

For a Woman

A daughter reflects on the extraordinary love story of her parents, whose unshakeable bond has left a lasting impact on their family.

In the 1980s, two sisters, Anne and Tania, discover a mysterious ring and a photo of their uncle Jean, sparking Anne's curiosity as a filmmaker. She decides to investigate the ring's history, which leads her on a journey to uncover the secrets of their family's past. The story takes her back to post-WWII France, where a Soviet Jewish couple, Michel and Léna, settled in Lyon and started a new life. They had a daughter, Tania, and Michel joined the Communist Party, befriending its leader, Maurice, and his wife, Madeleine. However, their seemingly idyllic life is disrupted by the sudden appearance of Michel's long-lost brother, Jean, who is welcomed into their home. As Jean becomes integrated into their lives, Léna finds herself drawn to him, while Michel begins to suspect that Jean may not be who he claims to be.
