In 1743, a Spanish fugitive named Leon Alastray flees the army and finds refuge in a village plagued by Yaqui Indian raids, where he forms a bond with a compassionate priest.

In the movie, a notorious outlaw named Leon Alastray seeks refuge with a priest, Father John, and then accompanies him to a deserted village. The villagers, hiding from Indian attacks, mistake Alastray for the priest when Father John is killed. Despite Alastray's denials, the villagers believe he is a priest, and a seemingly miraculous event further convinces them.
