In a 19th century German village, a young girl begins to have unsettling visions of missing children, hinting at a malevolent presence lurking in the shadows.

In a small, picturesque port town, a young girl named Laurin lives with her family in a remote cottage surrounded by dense woods and a castle ruin on a hill. When her mother dies under mysterious circumstances, Laurin begins to feel that something evil is lurking in the village. Two years later, a new teacher, Van Rees, arrives in town, and Laurin develops a strange attraction to him. As she observes his unusual behavior around her schoolfriend Stefan, Laurin starts to piece together the truth about her mother's death and the disappearance of a gypsy boy. She discovers a hidden vault in the castle ruin, where she uncovers a dark and terrifying secret.
