In the 1950s, concert pianist Joyce Hatto's talent is recognized by her husband and agent, William Barrington-Coupe, known as Barrie. Despite her success, Joyce's stage fright limits her concert tours. After serving a short prison term for tax evasion, Barrie discovers that Joyce's old recordings are in demand online, and he concocts a plan to pass off recordings by other pianists as Joyce's work.
