A young boy, Rascal Mike, is on the road to recovery after a successful bone marrow transplant for cancer, and is eager to return home. However, his mother's prolonged absence from the children's hospital leads to a surprise twist when social services disqualifies her and juvenile court awards custody to another family. Mike forms an unlikely bond with Vincent, a shy and spoiled boy from a pilot's family, and is offered a foster home. Despite being hesitant, Mike tries to scare off potential foster parents, including a kind couple, in hopes of being reunited with his mother. But a sudden procedural change turns everything upside down.
