A dedicated but impoverished worker finds himself caught in a tangled web of romance, social class, and power struggles as he fights to protect his beloved from the advances of his wealthy and influential superiors.

An old man, Chachaji, and his young daughter, Kusum, search for a new home after their house is repossessed. Meanwhile, a poor young man named Ramprasad helps a superstitious widower, Bhavani Shankar, win a court case and secure his family's ancestral home. When Chachaji and Kusum arrive at the house, they face resistance from the estate manager, Gajanan Babu, who becomes smitten with Kusum. As Gajanan's proposal is rejected, Kusum and Ramprasad seek help from Babua, who is also captivated by Kusum's beauty. The situation becomes more complicated when Bhavani Shankar, too, expresses his desire to marry Kusum.
