Onionhead

A young Oklahoma graduate trades in his textbooks for a life of adventure at sea, enlisting in the US Coast Guard and taking on the role of cook on a Boston-based ship in 1941.

Al Woods joins the US Coast Guard after his girlfriend refuses to commit, and finds himself as a junior cook on a ship in Boston. He meets Stella Papparonis at a bar, but she refuses to stay with him when he rents a hotel room. On board, Al excels as a cook and learns about doing the right thing, even as Stella's marriage to his superior, Red Wildoe, ends in infidelity. The attack on Pearl Harbor brings a new level of seriousness to their lives.
