In a distant future ravaged by an ice age, a city on the brink of collapse is home to a dwindling population of fur-clad survivors. The remnants of humanity scavenge for food and warmth, their only comforts being a potent drink called booza and a board game called Quintet. The city's streets are also patrolled by packs of feral rottweilers, feasting on the dead. When a new family, the Essexes, arrives in search of shelter, they're drawn into the city's dark secrets, including the sinister undertones of the seemingly innocuous game Quintet.
