Susan Miller, a department store employee, dreams of a life of luxury and glamour. She meets May and Warren, con artists who pose as her mother and uncle, and together they embark on a scheme to swindle millionaires out of their money. They convince Susan that she has an opportunity to fulfill her dreams and the trio heads to Palm Beach. Along the way, they scam a man named John Wheeler out of his life savings and then infiltrate the wealthy family of Tod Fenwick, with Susan posing as his fiancée. However, John shows up and reveals that he is not a millionaire, but a clerk who is being pursued by a detective. Susan agrees to marry him, but Warren intercepts a proposal from Tod and accepts on her behalf. Warren plans to blackmail Susan into marrying Tod and then the Fenwicks into dissolving the marriage. Susan must find a way to get John's money back and escape the clutches of the con artists.
