A man awakens with no memory of who he is or where he is. The only person who can see him is a mysterious figure in black, a 19th century French aristocrat. Despite their vastly different backgrounds, they form an unlikely bond as they explore the Winter Palace of the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. Along the way, they encounter people from various eras of Russian history, interacting with them through events and artifacts. The man's ultimate goal is to move forward, with or without his companion.
