In 1865, a group of Russian Naval Academy cadets on shore leave in Morocco discover a family of once-wealthy Spanish colonists, whose daughter secretly performs in a cabaret. Romantic complications arise, but the future composer Nicky Rimsky-Korsakov is more focused on finding inspiration for his music than on pursuing the daughter's affections.
