In the town of Gunlock, Sheriff Jorden is preparing to execute Sam Hall, who has been accused of shooting three farmers on cattle land. As the sun begins to set, the cattlemen are planning to rescue Sam, while the farmers are determined to lynch him before he can escape. Meanwhile, Sam is planning his own escape with his girlfriend Nellie Mason, but the sheriff is more concerned with uncovering the identity of the person who hired Sam to commit the crime, with his future brother-in-law being a prime suspect.
