Commander Benjamin Sisko, still grieving the loss of his wife, takes command of the space station Deep Space Nine, a former Cardassian outpost built near Bajor. The station is in ruins, left stripped by the Cardassians, and its Bajoran commander, Major Kira Nerys, is skeptical of the Federation. Sisko's task is to rebuild and maintain order, but things take a turn when a mysterious wormhole appears, connecting the station to the Alpha Quadrant and drawing in new, unfamiliar dangers and opportunities.
