Ed Hatch, a promoter, brings his wrestler Joe Skopapolous to a small town in the Ozarks to put on a show. When he meets Sadie, a blacksmith, he sees an opportunity for an inter-gender match and offers her $100 to compete. Joe falls for Sadie and refuses to fight her, so Ed sets up a match between Joe and Noah instead. The winner will marry Sadie, but Joe gives up wrestling for her. Ed tries to salvage the situation by convincing Sadie that Joe has a family, causing her to reconsider her choice.
