Shipwrecked off the coast of Africa, orphaned John Clayton Jr. is rescued and adopted by a gorilla mother, Kala, who names him Tarzan. Raised by gorillas, Tarzan learns forest ways and grows intelligent. Then, Jane Porter and her father, Professor Archimedes Porter, and their housekeeper, Esmeralda, enter the jungle, sparking feelings of affection in Tarzan.
