In 17th-century England, a landowner named Ralph Gower discovers a mysterious skull with an eye and fur in a field, only for it to vanish when he summons the local judge. Meanwhile, Peter Edmonton's fiancée Rosalind becomes insane and is institutionalized, and Peter finds a claw replacing her hand. As chaos erupts, the judge returns from London and concludes that evil has possessed the local children, who exhibit strange behavior, peculiar fur, and commit heinous crimes under the leadership of Angel Blake.
