Manhattan lawyer Hugo Spencer faces a year-end review and demands a partnership position from his boss, threatening to leave if not granted. He heads to Milwaukee to spend Christmas with his mother, where he reconnects with Patrick Ryan, a former high school classmate and successful philanthropist. As they work together on a Christmas festival, Hugo develops feelings for Patrick, but struggles with uncertainty about their future together due to his impending return to New York.
