A lecturer in architecture inherits a large old house in Hellerup, Denmark, and his wife, a TV newscaster, suggests inviting friends to live with them to revitalize their marriage. As a dozen people move in, they form a community, making collective decisions and having discussions, but their differences cause tension. The balance is threatened when the lecturer falls in love with his student, Emma, and she moves into the house, while his 14-year-old daughter observes and seeks her own path.
