In 18th century Spain, a beggar seeks refuge in a castle on a marquis's wedding day, only to be imprisoned and forgotten. The mute daughter of the jailer secretly feeds him, and as she grows up, she is mistreated by the marquis, who is unsuccessful in his advances. She eventually kills the marquis and escapes to the forest, where she is found by Don Alfredo and brought back to his home.
