In 1963 Brooklyn, Jeffrey Willis, a high school graduate, navigates his uncertain future amidst his stifling family and a summer job at the Flamingo beach club. He meets Phil Brody, a charismatic car dealer who inspires Jeffrey with get-rich-quick ideas and becomes a role model for his own aspirations. As Jeffrey falls for Carla Samson, he begins to realize the flaws in Phil's philosophy, marking a turning point in his coming-of-age journey.
