Lucy Muir, a widowed mother, moves to the English seaside with her daughter and maid to escape her controlling in-laws. Despite the rental agent's warnings, she rents a haunted cottage, where she meets the ghost of its former owner, Captain Daniel Gregg. As they develop a friendship, Daniel becomes protective of Lucy, disapproving of the men who enter her life.
