Master thief Gerard Dennis escapes from a Canadian prison farm and flees to Buffalo with the help of Peggy Arthur. They pull off a robbery, but Dennis's accomplices abandon him, leading to a confrontation that leaves him badly beaten. He meets nurse Martha Rollins in the hospital, who falls in love with him and hopes to reform him. However, Dennis continues his life of crime, getting wounded during another robbery in New Rochelle. Martha performs surgery on him, but later discovers him with another woman and turns him in to the police. Dennis escapes the trap and flees to Los Angeles, where he uses his charm to rob the jewels of his wealthy divorcee friend's society friends.
