The Horsemen background

The Horsemen

A drama that highlights the breathtaking landscapes of rural Afghanistan and the intense excitement of a traditional sport, echoing the thrill of horseback polo.

In a poor, mountainous region of Afghanistan, the status of men is determined by their prowess in buskashi, a brutal form of polo. Tursen, a former champion, has bred a champion horse, Jahil, and his son Uraz represents their stable in the royal tournament. Uraz's determination to prove himself leads him on a treacherous journey across the Hindu Kush mountains, where he suffers a leg injury and decides to return home without medical treatment, leading to gangrene. His servant, Mokkhi, joins the journey, hoping to gain the valuable horse, but they are also pursued by a nomad, Zareh, who is attracted to the men and poses a deadly threat.
