The movie follows the story of the Van Der Byl family, who own a diamond mining operation in South Africa. The family consists of Benedict, Tracey, and their father Hendrich, who is terminally ill. Hendrich divides the company's shares equally among his children, with Johnny, who has been treated like a son, receiving a separate share related to his new vessel, Kingfisher.
