A single mother has devoted her life to raising her only son, Sasha. As he enters his teenage years, he becomes increasingly frustrated with his mother's constant nagging. Seeking a change of scenery, Sasha spends the summer with his father in Novosibirsk, a city on the opposite side of the country. Upon his return, his mother notices a significant change in his behavior. She discovers a letter from his father that reveals Sasha's desire to leave and live with his father. Crushed and unable to accept the possibility of losing her son, the mother's world is turned upside down.
