Aging running coach Barry seeks to field a winner in the 90K Comrades Marathon in South Africa, but his plans are disrupted when he's fired and replaced by a corporate type. He finds a new protégée in Christine, a Namibian immigrant who runs to escape her troubles, and becomes obsessed with training her. However, Christine begins to resent Barry's controlling nature and wants to assert her independence, even as a rival suitor emerges to complicate their relationship.
