A former GI, Ken, returns home from war with a paralyzing injury. Initially, he struggles with depression, but with the support of his doctor, Dr. Brock, and his fiancée, Ellen, he begins to overcome his isolation. He forms connections with fellow patients, including Norm, Leo, and Angel, and eventually becomes determined to regain the use of his limbs. Despite some setbacks, including a tumultuous wedding night, Ken comes to realize the importance of his marriage and the need to work through his struggles with Ellen to build a new life together.
