The Saturday Night Kid background

The Saturday Night Kid

In Ginsberg's Department Store, two sisters, Mayme and Janie, work together, with Mayme secretly pining for Bill, a store clerk. However, Janie is secretly working against Mayme's romantic interests, while another salesgirl, Hazel, makes her film debut in a significant role.

Mayme, a salesgirl, falls in love with her colleague Bill, but he's promoted and becomes unavailable. Her sister Janie, meanwhile, is struggling to pay off debts to their boardinghouse owner Lem after losing bets. In an effort to recoup her losses, Janie places the pageant funds on a winning horse, but accidentally bets on the wrong one. Mayme helps Janie by winning back the money from Lem, exposing Janie's deceit and ultimately leading to Bill returning to Mayme.
