The movie follows Molly Woods, a schoolteacher, who arrives at Medicine Bow and clashes with the Virginian, a cowboy, due to their initial misunderstandings. Complications arise when the Virginian's old friend Steve gets entangled with a notorious outlaw, Trampas, and his gang of rustlers. The Virginian must lead a posse to catch the rustlers, while Molly struggles to accept the violent realities of frontier life.
