In the 1940s, a veteran clockmaker, voiced by James Earl Jones, battles racial prejudice and stands trial for murder after a racist is found dead. But just as the case seems hopeless, Kevin Kilner comes forward to claim responsibility for the crime, citing self-defense. Meanwhile, Kilner's personal life is plagued by turmoil, including a devastating health crisis affecting his daughter.
