Umrao Jaan, a courtesan, is forced into a life of prostitution after being kidnapped and sold. She becomes a renowned courtesan with many patrons, including Nawab Sujat Ali Khan and his son Sultan, with whom she falls in love. However, their love is forbidden by Sujat, and Sultan chooses Umrao over his inheritance.
