Bill Ferguson, a travel agency owner, is heartbroken after his girlfriend Stella breaks up with him. To distract himself, he takes a business trip to the continent, where he discovers Stella is engaged to someone else. Bill and Stella eventually reconcile and get engaged, but things get complicated when he gives out duplicates of his lost apartment key to various women he meets on the trip. Three of these women show up at his apartment in Edinburgh, and Bill must hide the true nature of his relationships with them from each other and Stella, while secretly wanting to pursue one of them, Lucille Daumier.
