Angeleno Jerry Waters II, a wealthy young man, loses his assets and is desperate for a job to support himself. He finds work driving for an unlicensed passenger transport service, unaware that the owner, Emma "Ma" Talbot, is trying to put his former employer, Federated Bus Lines, out of business. Ma's plan involves malfunctions, accidents, and theft to disrupt Federated's operations and steal its franchise. Jerry and Ted, a Federated employee, fall in love, but may not be able to stop Ma's scheme before it's too late.
