The movie tells the story of a complicated father-son relationship between Paul, a demanding and passionate wine-maker, and his son Martin, who works alongside him at their family vineyard in Saint Emilion. Paul struggles to accept Martin as his successor, longing for a son who is more talented and charismatic. As Paul's trusted manager Francois falls ill, his son Philip returns from California to care for him, leading Paul to turn away from his own son and seek his ideal son in Philip.
