Despite the risk of persecution, brave custodians concealed films from the regime, and now, dedicated cinephiles are excavating, preserving, and restoring thousands of hours of film footage. Led by Ibrahim Arify, who fled the country after being jailed for filmmaking, the effort aims to rebuild Afghan Film and bring order to a country with scarce resources and great needs.
