A middle-aged theater director, Ernesto, is struggling to find his place after a breakup. He moves to a new floor with his teenage daughter Cloe, who is a talented painter. When Ernesto's mother suddenly dies, he promises to take her corpse to her birth town and throw it into the sea. Feeling overwhelmed, Ernesto steals the hearse and embarks on a 479 km road trip with Cloe to fulfill his promise. Along the way, they face their past secrets and troubles, including a complicated relationship with Cloe's brother Max, a pianist who feels like a fraud.
