A magnificent white schooner set sail from Greenwich in November 1938, carrying 14 passengers from the US, Canada, and England, as well as Captain Ahto Valter, his wife, and their 1.5-year-old son. The 70-ton auxiliary ketch, Ahto, was crewed by adventurers handpicked from 5,000 applicants in the US. The voyage, which lasted 18 months, was filled with joy, love, and adventure, but also betrayal and war.
