Christopher Columbus, a young boy from Genoa, Italy, dreams of an adventurous life at sea. He becomes an expert sailor and is convinced that the most direct route to the Far East is by sailing due west around the globe. Despite being rejected by King John and his learned men, Columbus' determination keeps his dream alive. He eventually gains the support of Queen Isabella of Spain and sets sail with three ships and a crew of ninety. After facing mutiny and near-starvation, Columbus prays for help and discovers a new world. The Queen honors him, naming him Admiral of the Ocean Seas, and his name becomes immortalized for changing the world.
