In a cosmopolitan ghetto on the edge of Johannesburg, 28 July 1958, Badman, a gang leader, lives life on his own terms. Eve Msomi, a talented torch-singer, performs her last concert in the local hall before leaving for London. The next day, police will forcibly evict residents of Gerty Street, but Badman decides to fight to the death to protect his home. His gang, The Vipers, senses his vulnerability and turns on him, putting his life and his love for Eve at risk.
