Ethnic Lithuanian father and daughter Vladas and Ruta, separated since WWII, are finally set to reunite in Berlin. Ruta, living in Chicago, and Vladas, in Soviet-occupied Lithuania, have kept in touch through letters and phone calls. They arrange to meet in the west sector, with Ruta staying at a pension and Vladas at a consulate housing compound. However, their reunion is threatened by the city's geopolitical tensions and Ruta's presence may put the landlady's friends, trying to escape the Stasi, at risk.
