Ware College, a small Black college in Ohio, is struggling with low attendance, enrollment, and finances. The instructors, Drury and Annabelle Brown, discover that the CEO, Benjamin Ware III, claims the college's founder's estate is destitute, which they believe is a lie due to Annabelle's rejection of his affections. They decide to hold a reunion to appeal for financial help from famous alumni, but things take a surprising turn when Lucius Jordan, a former student who had a crush on Annabelle, arrives in town with his swing band.
