Down-on-his-luck race-horse trainer Tim is given a ride by the daughters of a wealthy breeder and discovers their horse, Tanglefoot, is destined for the slaughterhouse. Eileen buys the horse and Tim is hired as a trainer. They buy another horse, Dinner Ring, and win a stake race. Tim and Eileen prepare Tanglefoot for a big race, but Manning's horse breaks a leg and is killed. Eileen reveals her true feelings to Manning, and he realizes he loves her. Tim helps Tanglefoot overcome a fear of the red flag by bribing the starter to position it out of sight.
