Baseball player Dan Walker leaves the game to pursue his dream of owning a Texas ranch, where he can be with his wife and daughter. However, he misses his casual friendships with disadvantaged boys at the ballpark, especially Skippy and Hank, who are destined for reform school. Dan decides to take them with him to Texas to find them jobs on ranches, but soon learns that city boys struggle to adapt to rural life. He then comes up with an idea to start a boys' ranch, where they can learn to farm, receive guidance, and get an education. With the ranch thriving, Dan faces new challenges, including the struggles of a younger boy named Butch and the rebellious Skippy, who only responds to his own rules and desires.
