Captain Calamity, Bill Jones, navigates the South Seas on his schooner "Marigold", earning his reputation as a fierce fighter or enthusiastic reveler. Stranded on Quica, Bill accepts a Spanish doubloon from Australian Carr to transport him to Tapillo, where Carr can catch a ship to Sydney. Bill trades the doubloon for supplies, unaware that the trader, Joblin, believes he's found a pirate's fortune. Joblin, along with Madame Gruen and Samson, plans to steal the supposed treasure, enlisting a crew of cutthroats led by Black Pierre. Meanwhile, Bill meets Dr. Kelkey and his ward, Madge Lewis, who seeks revenge for her father's murder in Australia. Bill agrees to help Madge, unaware she's the same girl he saved from a sinking ship 12 years prior.
