Twelve-year-old Niilas is forced to spend the summer in Lapland with his mother and her new family, who live among the Sami people. Despite a warm welcome, Niilas is initially resistant, but eventually opens up to his half-sister Sunnà. He joins the reindeer migration and a search for a missing reindeer, where he encounters a recurring moose. Through these experiences, Niilas discovers his roots and has the most adventurous summer of his life.
