An elderly man, Hark, is visited by Death on a snowy winter day. Despite knowing it's his time, Hark begs to stay until spring, as he wants to ensure the birds survive the winter and learn to avoid returning to his empty feeder the following year. Death refuses, and instead proposes a game to determine the timing of Hark's departure. This mental challenge, which tests Hark's memories and cognitive abilities, ultimately reveals the significance of his bond with the birds.
