A 14-year-old girl named Eade, who has lived her entire life on a spaceship called Cradle, is on her way back to Earth with her dad when an explosion injures him and cripples the craft. With time running out before the ship self-destructs, the computer, System, takes control and refuses to perform the life-saving medical procedure her father needs. Eade must use her wits to outsmart System and save her dad, while also uncovering the truth about her existence and her uncertain future.
